We're delighted to announce that Len Nichols, PhD, former Senior Advisor for Health Policy at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in the Clinton Administration, will be a keynote speaker at VCC17.
As the future of healthcare reforms such as the Affordable Care Act continue to be fiercely debated in Washington, Nichols, one of the most highly regarded policy advisors to Congress and the White House, will discuss the current options on the table and the impact each of them will have on healthcare today.
Len M. Nichols has been the Director of the Center for Health Policy Research and Ethics (CHPRE) and a Professor of Health Policy at George Mason University since March 2010. He has been intimately involved in health reform debates, policy development, and communication with the media and policy makers for more than 20 years, after serving as Senior Advisor for Health Policy at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in the Clinton Administration. Since that time, he has testified frequently before Congress and state legislatures, published extensively, and spoken to a wide range of hospital associations, physician groups, and health policy leadership forums around the country. After OMB, Nichols was a Principal Research Associate at the Urban Institute, Vice President of the Center for Studying Health System Change, and Director of the Health Policy Program at the New America Foundation. In addition to his positions at GMU, Nichols is on the Board of Directors of the National Committee for Quality Assurance and was recently appointed by the Comptroller General to serve on the Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC), created by the MACRA legislation of 2015. Nichols was an advisor to the Virginia Health Reform Initiative and is now the payment reform advisor to the Virginia Center for Health Innovation. As he came to focus his research more on payment and delivery reform, Nichols was an Innovation Advisor to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation at CMS in 2012, and is now the Principal Investigator on PCMH evaluation studies as well as more general ways to use payment and delivery reform to achieve Triple Aim and health equity goals. Nichols’ first job was teaching economics at Wellesley College from 1980-1991, where he became Associate Professor and Economics Department Chair, after receiving his PhD in Economics from the University of Illinois in 1980. He earned his BA from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, and his MA in Economics from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
We're also excited to announce that Pascal Finette, Vice President SU Labs, Entrepreneurship Chair & Global Evangelist at Singularity University, will be a keynote speaker at VCC17.
Pascal heads up everything Entrepreneurship at Singularity University, including the Startup Program, Global Expansion and the Entrepreneurship Track where he inspires, educates and empowers entrepreneurs tackling the world's most intractable problems leveraging exponential technologies.
Pascal has spent his career pushing the boundaries of technology and passionately believes the Internet can deeply impact the betterment of mankind. He got started on the Net before there was a web browser, founded a couple of technology startups, led eBay's Platform Solutions Group in Europe, launched a consulting firm helping entrepreneurs with their strategy & operations, invested into earlystage tech startups, led Mozilla's Innovation Lab, created Mozilla's accelerator program WebFWD, headed up Mozilla's Office of the Chair and has invested into social impact organizations around the globe at Google.org. He also founded the non-profit organizations Mentor for Good and The Coaching Fellowship; the "GyShiDo" (Get Your S%#& Done) movement and publishes the opinionated newsletter, "The Heretic", which is read by tens of thousands of entrepreneurs around the globe.
He frequently speaks and writes about the magic which happens at the intersection of entrepreneurship, technology & global impact. As a trained Co-Active executive coach Pascal works with clients on achieving their full leadership potential. But most of all – Pascal loves to work with entrepreneurs who are making things better and go from zero to one.
Verscend's own David Costello, PhD, Chief Analytics Officer, will be a keynote speaker at VCC17.
David is responsible for leading analytic efforts in Verscend's Risk Adjustment, Performance Analytics, and Payment Accuracy domains, as well as operations business intelligence reporting. He works closely with the product, consulting, data operations, and client services teams to ensure that Verscend's proprietary analytics help our clients meet their business objectives and remain relevant in the industry.
Prior to Verscend, David was the chief analytic officer at Press Ganey. He was responsible for building a set of analytic products that allowed hospitals and provider groups to enhance patient experience, solidify their reimbursements, and identify areas for process improvement and revenue enhancements. David also previously served as SVP of consumer segmentation and engagement strategies at Health Dialog, where he was responsible for building and implementing strategies that targeted, activated, and engaged members related to their specific health conditions.
David holds a BA in Business Administration and Sociology from Northern Michigan University and a MA/PhD in Sociology from the University of Delaware. He also served for four years in the United States Air Force.
